[Talkgroup 98977 for OpenGD77]

Post by DU2XXR » Fri Nov 29, 2019 5:25 pm

I'm curious whether there is a Brandmeister talkgroup where OpenGD77 users discuss either development or use.

We're all using DMR here, and most likely using Brandmeister, so I thought why not have somewhere we can QSO and get to know each other.

I asked the local BM server admin about this, and it seems that you can’t use any arbitrary TG on BM, and that the system admins define what TGs are routed by the network

I have tried other TGs not in the list shown on the PiStar but they didn’t work.

E.g. using TG 77 is routed between users

According to https://confluence.brandmeister.network ... Id=5374041 "the BrandMeister DMR network allow the utilization of any valid talkgroup number." What valid means is left an exercise for the user, but it seems that international talkgroups should start with 9, and if I recall correctly user IDs have 6 or 7 digits.

You might try something like 90077, or some other 5 digit ID that isn't already listed at https://brandmeister.network/?page=talkgroups

I recall you can use any of number, for instance your own. But instead of a private call, set it as a talkgroup. For instance, my ID 3134760 should work as TG. I'd be glad to monitor there in case anyone would like to test.

Once we have confirmed that, perhaps we can use one of our IDs as TG (I'd be glad to volunteer mine).

So should we all use/dedicate BM 977? Everyone is also welcome on BM 31088 Colorado HD (Hotspot Discussion). A few of use there are using OpenGD77 and talk about it quite a bit.

Its probably better to have a dedicated TG, albeit that makes it harder for people to monitor it, than just using whatever is their local active TG.

I think something short like TG 977 is better than a long TG number that does not contain 77 and 9 normally indicates some sort of Worldwide TG

I checked the BM TG list on the pistar.uk website and 973 is SOTA but there is nothing after that in the 97x range

OK let's use BM 977. After it has been active for a while we can request that it get assigned/named "OpenGD77." I am happy to advance that request once we start using it for a bit. The BM administrative guideline/requirement is that the TG be active for 60 days before the request for TG can be granted. But I can look into that again if you like.

Hi Bud

That sounds great.

I'm surprised that there are not already other hardware related TGs e.g for the MD-380 Toolz guys etc

Once the work on GD77 is nearly finished (cause it's never really finished ;) ), we could ask you to move to MD380 development, cause it's nearly stopped and you already have ideas, some even implemented, that MD380tools don't have. :)
