[Resolved incorrect DMR EmbeddedLCOnly PiStar setting] Callsings not displayed
[Resolved incorrect DMR EmbeddedLCOnly PiStar setting] Callsings not displayed
Happy field day!
Today, I uploaded the latest firmware release and was wondering why I cannot see the callsigns of other amateur radio operators. It was my understanding that the OpenGD firmware supports 'Talker Alias' removing the need to store a database of callsigns on the HT.
I set 'Talker Alias' to 'on' in my GD77 but I don't see callsigns. I'm not using a repeater. I use my hotspot with pi-star.
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Re: Callsings not displayed
Hi,
You can also load a bunch of dmrids in your GD, using the extra menu in the CPS.
Cheers.

Talker alias is only available on brandmeister network.K9JPT wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:36 pmHappy field day!

TA Rx is always enabled.K9JPT wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:36 pmHappy field day!

The option you enabled is to transmit Talker Alias,
I recommend you turn that off again, because most networks don’t handle TA data from end users. E.g. DMR MARC networks freak out if you enable it, and Brandmeister seems to ignore part of the TA data, so there is no point sending it.
TA Tx is mainly used for simplex operation.

Re: Callsings not displayed
Thank you for the replies and added detail!
However, the issue I have still remains. I cannot see callsigns on my OpenGD77 handheld when I get into QSO's or simply just listen.
I listen to 3100, 31656, 31363, 91 and see no callsigns.
What am I doing wrong?
Question: In CPS under 'About' the CPS version is not released. Where would I find it?
Thanks,
K9JPT

Re: Callsings not displayed
Some repeaters don't pass TA data, because old Motorola radios don't support it. Try a different repeater, or use a hotspot or contact the repeater administrator (but I doubt a repeater admin would enable TA if its not currently enabled)K9JPT wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 3:05 pmThank you for the replies and added detail!

If you are using a hotspot and don't see any TA data, then its probably not configured correctly
You can download some of the DMR ID database into the radio, but the memory is limited to around 15,000 callsigns, and there are at least 50,000 registered Hams on DMR just in the USA alone.
So you won't be able to store all the callsigns.
Re: Callsings not displayed
I have been trying for a couple months now to get TA working on my Open GD-77 to no avail. MY settings in pi-star appear to be correct but would welcome any further suggestions so I can finally start to see call signs.
Thank you!

Which network are you using (Brandmeister, DMR-MARC, IPSC2....) ?

Re: Callsings not displayed
Well Pi-Star is set to use the BM server.
Re: Callsings not displayed
In your Pi-Star configuration page, "DMR Configuration" section, does the toggle "DMR EmbeddedLCOnly:" is OFF ?
Cheers.
