1701 Timeout on pressing the PTT
1701 Timeout on pressing the PTT
Hello there,
Just got my license 2 weeks ago. And also a Boafeng 1701 from a chinese portal. I have been able to install the the latest version of the OpenGD77 on the 1701. Downloaded an OpenGD77 UK Codeplug modified the time slots and installed it.
But I have not been able to listen to any DMR channels or TGs.The FM on the radio works fine.
The radio does not allow me to transmit to the Echo9990. When I press the PTT it beeps and times out.
I have have downgraded the FW version to the May release but still no dice.
TIA

Re: 1701 Timeout on pressing the PTT
When you attempt to transmit to a repeater that is idle the radio sends a brief 'wakeup' burst and then listens for the repeater. If this fails it tries again a couple of times and then gives up and displays the timeout message.
So, if you are seeing timeout it means that either the repeater is not hearing you or you are not hearing the repeater.
This can be many things.
Not a strong enough signal from or to the repeater. Are you in its coverage area?
Incorrect Frequencies.
Incorrect Colour code.
Repeater is not operational.

Re: 1701 Timeout on pressing the PTT
Hi Colin,
Thanks for the response.
I have double checked the frequencies, timeslots colour codes
from radio id and repeaterbook. I have also checked the transmission coverage maps for the repeater.
The repeater is 3.1 miles from where I am.
When I press the PTT the radio displays zero of 1 second and then displays timeout.
Thanks,
Ram

Re: 1701 Timeout on pressing the PTT
Hi,
Because it's unable to wake the repeater up.
Cheers.

Thanks Daniel for the quick response.
Will try to go for a drive and see if I can pick up the repeater.
Thanks,
Ram

Re: 1701 Timeout on pressing the PTT
Listen for traffic on the repeater first.
Just because it says somewhere, like repeaterbook, that there is a repeater, does not guarantee its operational.

Re: 1701 Timeout on pressing the PTT
when setting up your CPS for the first time, did you use the proper donor firmware? Does the header of the CPS Firmware Loader say DMR+ when flashing?
I noticed this behavior is present if you have not used the proper donor firmware first. see screen capture attached

Re: 1701 Timeout on pressing the PTT
Hi Jason,
I have checked and the header displays DMR+.
I took the handy out on a drive and it's still not able to connect to the repeater. It still times out after 1 second.
I have ordered a Hotspot which should be arriving the day after.
I will tinker with it and update.
Thanks,
Ram

Re: 1701 Timeout on pressing the PTT
something isn't making sense. on my 1701, if I am not in range of a functioning DMR repeater, my counter will get to 10 and beep with a timeout.M7ESV wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 8:33 pmHi Jason,

Re: 1701 Timeout on pressing the PTT
If you have some other receiver covering these frequencies you can verify that both FM and DMR transmissions is audible.
BTW where are you located and which repeater have you programmed ?
