My radio has been in the cupboard for the last two years so I haven’t kept up with the official firmware and didn’t notice the dimming had been added.

We could probably do the same three or four preset levels at a higher frequency, it’s trying to get a smooth 0-100% that’s difficult.
I don't want to remove the lower percentage display bightness just because some radio's have a noise when those values are used.

Better to have 5 different PWM frequencies in a table e.g.0 - 19%, 20% - 39%, 40% to 59%, 60% to 79%, 80%+

Then use those values.

Or perhaps even 10 steps, but below 10% I know the PWM freq must be fairly low otherwise the backlight goes off completely

OH1E and OZ1MAX, Can you please post here the serial numbers of your radios. (The one printed on the label underneath the radio) .

I have been investigating the Buzz problem and it looks like some early batches of radios have a different version front panel PCB which may be more susceptible to the buzz.

I am trying to build up a list of serial numbers that have the buzzing problem.

For reference, we are talking here about a low frequency Buzz (about 350Hz) which can be heard on FM Rx through the speaker with the squelch open and the volume control to minimum.

One thing I did find is that there is a small bug in the menu setting routine for the backlight dimming. If you use the rotary knob to set the backlight value then when it reads 100% on the screen it is actually outputting 90%. One more click will still read 100% but will then output the correct waveform. Please can you both try this and see if the buzz stops at 100% + 1 click. It does on both my V2 radios.

Thanks. What is the serial number on the label?.
The first part identifies the production date.

have been using external speaker as buzz is alot less.. now well it not work anymore without speaker I guess the plug need repair :P.
Trying 100% + 1 not doing anything different it stays same as pressing B on mic button until 100%. the buzz is very low compared to 90%

Thanks,

I have heard other people who had problems with the socket. It sounds like the internal switching is not working.

That's what I can hear on my two V2 radios but it sounds much louder on yours. I can't hear it at 100% unless I put my ear right on the speaker. I would try reseating the front panel cable, that might reduce it .

I have found why 100% still makes a buzz and we will be fixing that in the next release. So at least you will be able to set 100% with no buzzing.

I have also found a way to increase the buzz frequency so that it is no longer audible, It works on my two radios but it doesn't work on Roger's so we are not sure if it is a reliable fix. The problem is TYT changed the front panel circuitry and the newer panels won't work with the higher frequency.

In fact when I load the latest TYT firmware into my two V2 radios they don't have the 4 level dimming available, it only appears on the V4 radio. So even TYT don't support dimming on some versions.
