I tried reading from the address specified for the RDA5802E, but its not returning the same ID etc as in the datasheet

But the chip is definitely on the same address as the RDA5802E

I read the first 16 registers and got these values

Code: Select all

Reg 00 0x2082
Reg 01 0x2C62
Reg 02 0x010A
Reg 03 0x2A3C
Reg 04 0x2014
Reg 05 0x0094
Reg 06 0x2A3C
Reg 07 0x0081
Reg 08 0x0B02
Reg 09 0x1C00
Reg 0A 0xBCCD
Reg 0B 0x0BD2
Reg 0C 0x4935
Reg 0D 0x0507
Reg 0E 0x051B
Reg 0F 0xC268
But the data sheet for the RDA5802 says that that register 0x00 top 8 bits [15:8] contain 0x58, and this chip has 0x20

http://blog.nutsfactory.net/wp-content/ ... A5802E.pdf

I found some Arduino code for the UV-5R, but I think that its not likely to work on this radio because the default values from the first 16 registers don't match the data sheet.

So, its likely to be some other FM chip from the same company or perhaps a clone of similar chip.

Thanks very much for this fw . It works very well with my hotspot .

How many dmr IDs can thai radio hold ? And how do i add them .

Thanks MM6NRK

Need help with two issues:

First, I cannot get the new OpenRD-5R firmware to talk to either of my two MMDVM simplex hotspots. Both worked fine with the original firmware--with minimal offsets (-25) and a BER of .2 With the new firmware the hotspots are receiving no signal. Thought it might be simplex and that the firmware might be waiting for a repeater acknowledgement to continue TX, but straight simplex works fine with the new firmware. Also, using the same codeplug, a GD-77, upgraded to the new firmware, has no problem being recognized by the hotspot. Any ideas of what the problem might be?

Also do not understand what the "Power" indicator in the display is supposed to represent. It is not showing the correct power-level of the channel from the codeplug. Nor does it change as one cycles through channels with different power levels (e.g., hotspot channels vs OTA channels). Do I need to manually set the power level for the channel I am using?

Thanks for any help on these issues ..
https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/ ... g-tx-power
Understood how to manually set the TX power level using the function+left and function+right keys. Similar to manually changing the power level in the factory frmware. My question is: does OpenGD77 for the RD-5R ignore the power level set for a channel in the codeplug and universally apply whatever power level is displayed on the screen to all channels until it is changed? If not, the power indicator on my RD-5R is not showing the correct power level for a channel as specified in the codeplug, and retains the manual setting across all channels, even after a reboot.

I would like to upgrade to this Open GD77 firmware but unsure how to proceed. I have RD-5R and have seen posts where the user has upgraded their RD-5R radio. Then i look on the download page and says that RD-5R is not ready and wont work. Does another download work with the RD-5R?

Thank You
Rob

Hi! I have just seen there's this open firmware for DM-5R/RD-5R and I am actually very happy.

I understand this is too experimental but I'd like to give it a try. I need to know I can go back to stock firmware when I need it. What are the chances the radio bricks and is there a safe way to unbrick it?

I would also like to learn how to program for this radio so I might help with some contributions but that will take a little more.

Thanks again!

You can go back to the stock firmware, but you also need to reload your RD-5R codeplug, because the OpenGD77 firmware uses the OpenGD77 codeplug format.

I have reverted my RD-5R several time.

Re: Bricking the radio

2 people have partially bricked their GD-77 when reloading the official firmware. There seems to be a bug in the newer versions of the official GD-77 firmware which cause bootloader to no longer accept firmware updates.
In those 2 cases the owners recovered their radios by attaching a $15 JLink compatible debugger and reflashing the a patched version of the bootloader.

One other person also put their GD-77 into that state, but so far has not connected a JLink to recover the radio

So..

Chances of bricking are low.

Even if the bootloader gets bricked, if you are willing to buy a cheap Jlink compatible debugger, you can easily reflash the CPU / MCU to recover the radio.

I installed DM-5R file.... what's the difference with the RD-5R .sgl?

I am not able to change anything in the Options menus, like "Options", "Display Options", "Sound Options"

73!
