Updated font test version from Daniel F1RMB

Post by VK3KYY » Sun Nov 17, 2019 9:36 am

The main text font used in the OpenGD77 firmware is the font used by the official firmware, which is not particularly good

Daniel F1RMB has been investigating some alternative fonts, and has submitted an update to change the medium and large font

I think its an improvement, but some of the letters, especially the "V" have changed quite a lot, so I thought it was better to make a "test" version which people could try with the new medium and large fonts, so we can get some feedback from everyone.

I've attached the test version to this posting.

Note. This version has the new feature for Digital Contacts and FM Narrow but does not have the FM squelch fix, as complicated to managed the merging of different versions and fixes.

Hello Roger,
I tested the version of Daniel and it's ok for me, much more legible than the norm. The "V" and the "U" are distinct.
Daniel told me he was still working on this version (alignment ....)

Looks much better than the original font to me.
Maybe it could be a little less bold ;-)

Many Thanks to Daniel

I have to admit that I like this font size because the text is more readable and contrasting. In particular, I have the GD-77BB version with a black background and the larger white letters are clearer.
Congratulations Daniel, keep up the good work.

Ok.

Sounds like it’s thumbs up for the new font

Guys

FYI.

There are some screen layout problems that will need to be resolved before we can use the new font, so I'll continue using the old font for updated versions until the layout issues are solved.

I have just updated to latest FW (from apx. 3 hours ago) and this big font is so ugly. "M", "W", terrible. I'm for old font.
