OpenGD77

1. Installed firmware downloaded 1-10-20. Radio worked fine with old codeplug still there.
2. Tried to read radio and said "no device found."
3. Went to EXTRAS section, selected COM port and could read and write.
4. Uninstalled everything to do with GD-77.
5. Reinstalled CPS and nothing worked. Noticed cable was one I purchased from Radioddity as (for MD-380 but compatible with GD-77. It was compatible with 3.1.1 and Community 3.1.x. on GD-77
6. Uninstalled, got old GD-77 cable and installed CPS with cable connected and radio ON.
7. Read and write good, no comport selection.

I'm having the same difficulty. Cannot read from radio-Device Not Found. All after updating firmware and loading Community edition CPS. Extras doesn't provide any com port info on this version. Radioddity branded cable that worked fine until firmware upgrade. Hopefully someone chimes in here. I like the looks of the latest firmware. Would be nice to have double wait and a few other items that appear to have gone away. I'll follow your steps. You did find resolution with this? EDIT: Got it figured out, mostly. Had to revert to 4.2.6 firmware and update to the latest CPS.

The USB cord of Radioditty is of poor quality, I had many problems loading of firmware / CPS and also connection with an RPI for the hotspot mode.
I just pressed hard to crush the USB socket a little to have better pressure on the contacts and no more problems since....

I use the programming cable from my Anytone 878 with 100% success.

Look in the Windows device manager and confirm that you can see the "OpenGD77" device.

If not, try another USB port, as possibly the drivers don't work with some high speed USB ports (though this has not been confirmed either way)

I don't have any problems with my cable, except that it's HARD to insert in the radio. Is everyones this way, or is mine just off a bit? Like maybe the connectors aren't exactly the right spacing. The MD380 and the GD77 cable feel exactly the same, so it's the GD77 that's wonky. My MD380 (and all my other radios with Kenwood style connectors) pops right in.

Make sure the tips of the prongs on the Radioddity cable are not loose. When that happens, the cable can be very difficult to insert. I had a Radioddity cable fail when one of the tips broke off inside the radio. I had to take the radio apart to fish out the loose tip and had to order a new cable. Both of my current Radioddity cables (I have two radios) insert very easily but I do make sure things are lined up well and not going in at an angle.

The MD-380 and GD-77 cables are the same. There isn't anything in the plug. Its just a blank PCB with the wires directly soldered on.

Baofeng, in their infinite wisdom, chose to swap the USB D+ and USB D- connections in their radios, so that the cable for the DM-1801 and the RD-5R (DM-5R etc), don't work with the GD-77 or the MD-380.

Yep, just meant to say in general the connector on my GD77 is weird, even hand mics, etc.
