[SOLVED] Open RD5R: FM-squelch is not memorized

Post by DB4BIN » Thu May 07, 2020 8:27 pm

Hello from germany :)

When using the Open RD5R-firmware, the squelch settings in FM-channels are not memorized. When switching back to a FM-channel, the squelch has to be set again.

Thanks in advance :)

Can you try holding the blue key while you press the green key to confirm the change? By default changes are temporary and you need to hold the blue key while confirming the change to tell the radio to write it back to the codeplug.

The Blue key on the RD-5R is the button below the PTT.
But is black not blue

Oh fun. Do all supported radios at least have two?

The RD-5R has SK1 and SK2 but does not have the Orange button, or Left and Right arrows.

It does have a MR/VFO button, which we use for both MR/VFO and "Orange" button functionality, as it happens to be coloured orange.

It also has a A/B button, and also another button labelled "Band" (I don't know what the Band button does when using the official firmware)

We have to use SK2 + A/B and SK2 + Band for Left and Right arrows, but this may be changed to SK1 + UP = Left , SK1 + Down = Right.

The MD-380 is worse, as it doesnt have left and right, or A/B or MR/VFO or Band buttons.
It has a rotary encoder, which could potentially be used in place of the Left / Right function to select TG's for the current channel, but because its an "Absolute" encoder type, then we can only use it for one thing, and not for Power control as well as TG control.

[SOLVED] Open RD5R: FM-squelch is not memorized

Hello and thanks for your answers :)

It seems that the OpenRD5R- firmware does not really support codeplugs created by the original CPS under the original firmware. I found out that the contact and group entries seem to be destroyed, there are "chaotical" entries in the contact and TG group windows and in the device menu.

So I tried something: I loaded the codeplug from my GD77 and wrote it back to the RD-5R. And it works! Squelch seems to work normal now and also all groups and contacts were transferred correctly. I am really thrilled about the possibilities you are giving to the RD-5R. I now own a total new radio.

Thanks Roger and team for your really great work.

Greetings from Germany and please stay healthy!

Ok.

I never had a full codeplug in the RD5R, so I just loaded my GD77 codeplug and it worked fine
