Battery voltage percentage fluctuation

Post by W0RMT » Sun Nov 17, 2019 7:18 pm

I'm not sure if this is a bug or rather a limitation of an internal measurement in the radio, but I've noticed that the battery voltage percentage (upper right of main display) fluctuates quite a bit. It will increase sometimes after having a QSO. I'm assuming this is because a real time voltage measurement changes before/during/after talking. If that is the case, maybe a time averaging of measurements (over say 180 s) might help level this out?

It’s a rolling 1 minute average sampled once per second.

The reason why the level is changing is because the battery voltage really is going down and up again.

I guess I could increase the averaging period. But if you turn it off and on again, the average will be lost and the value could change a lot between the value you saw prior to turning it off and the value you see when you turn in on again

OK not a big deal. I'm kind of surprised that it fluctuates this much if it is already a 1 min rolling average. Maybe a 120s averaging might help

It really does !

I will change the average period to 2 mins in the next release

I suppose what I'm noticing is that the 0-100 range of the percentage shows those fluctuations much more relative to the more common 3-bar graph indicators used on most radios. Yes increasing the averaging period may help.

I've changed the averaging period to 2 minutes instead of 1 minute, and this will be part of the next release.

In Reference to the battery percentage i have noticed i never see 100% or 100 normally around 96-98 any ideas.

And its nice to see a forum for this makes finding info great keep up the great work.

I will lower the voltage number e.g 8.2v which is used as the 100% value

I can’t Remember the actual number, but it will be something like 8.3V
