Re: On "Profiteering" and Free Software

I find the ebay listings disappointing... Personally, I would never consider exploiting your work on OpenGD77 for commercial purposes. It is amateur radio we're talking about. Open technology can exist in a commercial sense too. I helped introduce open source software to a very large computer firm t...

Re: Motorboating on Tx audio

Well, checking for dither was worth the test.

The hiss would reflect less dynamic range caused by eliminating the low order sample data.

It would be interesting to capture the analog data on the way into the DAC to see if the motorboating is in the analog audio.

Re: Motorboating on Tx audio

Interesting... I spoke with someone a couple of days ago that said they were using a Motorola mobile XPR4550 through an area repeater (I was receiving them through a jumbospot and a Motorola handheld) and there was low level motor boating on the signal. I don't think I've ever heard it on my equipme...

Re: Proposal - remove CPS download Digital Contacts function

I do think people are confused between the DMR ID Database and the Digital Contacts. The DMR ID database can hold a vast number of call sign to operator name mappings. This is, of course, a great feature of OpenGD77. I don't think I need to import vast numbers of IDs into the Digital Contacts tables...

Re: New to any sort of radio

The potential legal issue is that your national radio regulator may require type acceptance of a radio to be used on unlicensed frequencies. That type acceptance typically specifies a number of technical characteristics for the radio (including limited power output) that the radio is evaluated for b...

Re: New owner/user - initial impressions

Hi Darrin, and welcome to the project. I cannot confirm those problems. No spontaneous reboots have occurred on any of my GD77 radios. I'm using a recent version of the unstable firmware. You might double check how close your unit is to the frequency your MD390 is on. If you have a hotspot that does...

Re: What is the advantage of openGD77 vs OEM firmware?

With OpenGD77, you don't have to dedicate a programmed channel to every frequency / talk group ID pair. You can define one channel for a hotspot or repeater's frequencies, and then scroll through all the talk groups that you've defined as available on it without changing to different programmed chan...

Re: NEW to OpenGD77, but not Ham Radio

Welcome to the project,Phil. I think you'll be impressed with OpenGD77, and enjoy DMR. Look into Brandmeister as your VOIP switch backbone. I think it's the most reliable and mature of what's out there. With some work, you'll find the "JumboSpot" simplex or duplex hot spots with PiStar and a Raspber...
