So I pulled the pin and ordered a DM-1701B from China, which firmware file would be the one to use for that unit, OpenDM1701 or OpenRT84, I can see that the DM-1701B is referred to as “aka Retevis RT-84” in another thread..

The Chinese Hams say the firmware works ok with the 1701B

Thanks! I assume the radio detects the NMEA and then allows the GPS functionality? The board looks to be populated with everything that the GPS version has with the exception of the GPS receiver, a couple of components on the receiver RF input which might be amplifier or filter (or both) and the GP...

A little note from another TYT MD-9600 user: I've noticed my radio doesn't see satellites very well if my computer is turned on (about 18" away.) As soon as I shut it off they pop right up and it gets a fix.

The factory GPS doesn't work that well, and its position inside the display is not ideal
