Re: No Comm port for Programming Cable - Win 10

Hi, Won't work. To use the OpenGD77 CPS, you have to flash the OpenGD77 firmware first, then make the backups. Cheers. --- Daniel Thanks for responding. I am now trying to do what you say using Open GD-77 CPS but it always fails as it doesn't see the radio. 1. I get the firmware download ready to t...

Re: CPS cannot connect to GD-77 for initial load of opengd77

Hmmm, I'm in exactly the same position, I think I'll try checking the cable and uploading the Open GD-77 firmware.

Re: No Comm port for Programming Cable - Win 10

I'll jump in angain and clarify my situation... I just got a new (open box) Radioddity GD-77 and, on the advice of kt4lh, I was aiming to switch the firmware over to Open GD77 immediately so here's where I'm at: 1. I have a virgin GD77 (I presume) that has never even had a code plug written to it 2....

Re: No Comm port for Programming Cable - Win 10

Thanks, I just got a response from Radioddity saying that I should see a USB device named MCU MOUSE DEMO which I do . I also have a Baofeng cable (for UV-5R) that uses an FT232 driver chip and comes up as a COM port, will that work for the GD-77? So far, I have only installed the Open CPS applicatio...

No Comm port for Programming Cable - Win 10

I'm running Win 10 and I'm pretty IT-literate. The Radioddity serial cable is recognized by Windows if my GD-77 Radio is power on but there's never any Com port - it comes up as USB Input Device - so Open CPS can't read or write to the radio. I tried downloading the driver on the Radioddity site but...

Re: Using GD-77 with a PiStar hotspot

I don't have my GD-77 or my hotspot yet but they are on the way. I'm researching how to set up my GD-77 and have a couple of noob questions: 1. The FAQ says Q. If I install this firmware can I return to the official firmware A. Yes. But only if you backup the Flash, EEPROM and MCU ROM data, using th...

Re: Using GD-77 with a PiStar hotspot

Thanks, you made that really clear. The detailed instructions for Open GD-77 also seem to make it clear that I can jump straight in and install Open GD-77 firmware on my GD-77 (when it gets here) using the Open GD-77 version of CPS and then backup the flash so I can revert to original firmware if it...

Using GD-77 with a PiStar hotspot

I'm just starting out on the DMR journey and thought I'd try the Open GD-77 route. A few quick questions please: 1. How do I test that my GD-77 is working OK before I install the Open GD-77 firmware? 2. Do I need a special version of the PiStar software installed on my Pi Zero 2 W-based hotspot to r...

Re: New GD77's hard to find, discontinued?

I went to www.radioddity.com today and, on the first page there's an 'Open Box Sale' at the lower right. Click on that and there are a few GD-77 open-box radios available (at time of writing it said there were 11 left in stock for $85 each). I also got a $10 off discount for being a first time buyer...

Hi guys

The name is Ted and I spent the first 40 years of my life in the UK and (around 1980ish) held the callsign G6HKU. Then I moved to the USA in 1997 and now live here, have just retired, and hold the (vanity) Extra callsign AB6B. If anyone I knew in the UK wants to get in touch, please feel free to rea...
